Carignan is a varietal that provokes strong reaction in those who know about it.

Since his childhood, Olivier’s favourite places to play have been the vineyards and the wine cellar at his family’s wine estate founded in 1701 in Pézenas. With this upbringing, he developed a passion for nature and Languedoc wines.

This 2-bottle bundle of "Carignan Family" includes both Carignan Noir & Carignan Blanc. It's a rare bundle to show case the heritage of old vines at Languedoc, the viticulture and winemaking of Olivier Coste, the 9th generation vigneron from the Coste family.

As a vine, Carignan is difficult to grow and has a few disadvantages. It ripens late and it can be susceptible to both powdery mildew and downy mildew that requires extra care. It is not suitable for mechanical harvesting because its stalks are particularly tough.

As a wine, Carignan can be pretty tough too. Carignan Noir needs special vinification method to ensure wines can be drunk reasonably young. As it ages, the tannin smoothes nicely.

RARE- Carignan Blanc

Carignan Blanc is a rare Mediterranean grape varietal. Only 250 hectares remain, mostly in Languedoc. RARE-Carignan Blanc comes from a 70-year-old plot planted next to the sea.

We like it for its originality, vivacity, floral aromas and long finish.

VINTAGE:  2021

ORIGIN: Castelnau-de-Guers, Hérault, Vin de France

GRAPES: Carignan blanc

SOILS: Limestone

VINIFICATION: Grapes are harvested at night to avoid oxidation. They are destemmed before a 24-hour maceration. Then, they are pressed and ferment at low temperature to promote freshness and aromatic expression.

TASTING: The colour is pale and bright with a very faint greenish tinge and it has quite a delicate nose – lightly floral with pears and a whisp of herbs and citrus. The palate is rounded and supple, almost a little oily in texture like Vermentino or Sémillon, but with a backbone of citrus acidity and minerality to carry the juicy pear fruit and streak of green apple and white pepper.

It opens up in the glass, so give it swirl and allow it time to relax, then enjoy it as an aperitif or with sushi, fish, including fritto misto, or squid, light pasta dishes or salads and vegetables sprinkled with dukkah or served with walnut tarator sauce." - by Joanna Simon, a Wine & Food writer in U.K, author of "World of Fine Wine".

This wine is fresh and floral with great minerality, a rare white varietal that matches vegetable salad well. It goes with white fish, seafood, poultry too.  Chilled for better experience.

Alcohol Content:  12.5%
