Sauvignon has been grown in the Hunter Valley for over one hundred years. It is a difficult grape to grow in this region as the early rains, and extreme heat makes some vintages a real challenge. But when the vintage is kind, we can turn out some wonderfully full-bodied savory wines. 2018 was one of those years. It is a late riper and is the last variety to be picked.
The 2018 CEO Cabernet Sauvignon produces delicious plum and blackcurrant flavors. It comes with big fruit and typical vibrant Cabernet tannins. It has a touch of mint and those toasty characters from 16 months of maturation in French oak barrels. A wine of character and fines.
2018 CEO Cabernet Sauvignon Halliday Wine Companion Rating: 93 pts
"Full bodied. A quiver of cassis, leather, mulberry, garden herb, sage and that quintessential Hunter scent of terracotta, all bound by a sheath of detailed tannins: fine grained, precise and authoritative. These make the wine, conferring a welcome savouriness while the dutiful freshness pulls the finish to impressive length. A lovely wine." - Halliday Wine Companion 2022
